Walter Kovacs, better known as Rorschach, is a vigilante anti-hero appearing in the DC Comics graphic novel, *Watchmen*. He first appeared in *Watchmen* #1 in 1986.

Kovacs is characterized by his rigid moral absolutism and his refusal to compromise, even in the face of overwhelming odds. He is a highly skilled street fighter and detective, driven by a deep-seated rage at the perceived moral decay of society.

Rorschach's most distinctive feature is his mask, which displays a constantly shifting ink blot pattern. The pattern is symmetrical but never repeats, reflecting Kovacs' belief in a world of black and white, with no shades of grey. He views the world in terms of good versus evil, and acts accordingly, often with brutal and uncompromising force.
